Yang Liping to present stunning Under Siege at Sadler’s Wells
Bruno Wang Productions is proud to support Chinese choreographer and dancer Yang Liping, who will present the UK premiere of Under Siege, her stunning vision of the climactic battle between the Chu and Han armies, at Sadler’s Wells from November 2-5 2016.
The story – of an encounter that changed the course of Chinese history – is celebrated most famously through music, literature and film as Farewell My Concubine, and is now reimagined and staged by Yang with searing poignancy.
With a cast of performers who come from styles and traditions as diverse as Peking Opera, hip hop, ballet and contemporary dance, classical and folk music, this unique piece of dance theatre promises to be an unforgettable experience.
Yang is previously best known for creating the exotic song and dance spectacular “Dynamic Yunnan”, which has toured all over the world. This work was the culmination of a process which saw Yang travel to the remote village homes of the 26 ethnic minority tribes in Yunnan, where she selected more than 60 people who had the natural gift of song and dance, and built from them an archive of sight and sound.
